Seamus attended his first show and did fantastic! He was very brave about the new surroundings and stayed tuned into his handler. Not only that, he won his USDF sport horse in hand class! The judge comments included: "nice over step, good reach with shoulder, showing nice freedom (in trot)" with scores of 7.5 and 8 for movement and general impression. We are so proud of him. As he grows, Seamus just keeps getting better!!!

Don't let his registered name fool you, there is little mischief left to manage with him! ...his name is an homage to the Harry Potter tales. This young chap, known around the barn as 'Seamus' (pronounced Shay-muss, is Irish for James) is a sweet, affectionate, goofy, curious and fun youngster. He is a lovely registered German Riding Pony (GRP) gelding with a powerful hind leg, ground covering, uphill gaits and a swinging shoulder. Sired by the imported GRP stallion Manchester City, Seamus is registered with RPSI (meeting the standards for German breeders), he is microchipped and has his passport (he can go to Europe to compete).

His personality is very sweet and people oriented. He comes looking for hugs and likes to sniff you, often resting his head on you while you scratch. He has shown he is brave in new surroundings and looks to his handler for guidance.

At his foal inspections he was awarded Silver Premium with comments on his quality topline, freedom of shoulder and modern pony type. He has a beautiful head, lovely neck and a strong hip. His personality is very people-oriented, extremely sweet and he is very curious. As his ground training progresses, he is showing a forward mentality, naturally uphill in movement and a willing work ethic, much like his mother. He is sensitive yet sensible, and is developing into somewhat of a clown, amusing himself in his downtime by engaging his fellow paddock-mates in games.

Seamus's dam is our mare Ella. We see her ground covering length of stride, fancy swinging movement, phenomenal work ethic, and willingness to please shining through in Seamus. Ella's sire is the competitive dressage stallion Statesman's Signature, currently competing at 4th level and scoring in the 70%. Ella's half-sister is PVF Peace of Mind, 2015 USEF International Horse of the Year in driving. Successful athletes run in her family! Ella’s dam was our very athletically bred Arabian mare ElDiHan’s Serena. Serena started her life as a trail horse and broodmare then came to us at the age of 17 where she began her second career in dressage. As she proved her abilities and aptitude for the work, we opted to breed her and she had Ella. Ella is lightly going under saddle, was very easy to start and we expect the same from Seamus.

Seamus’s sire, German Riding Pony Manchester City, was purchased and imported from Germany as a coming 2 year old, 'Chester' was presented to GOV in 2012 and licensed. Chester is actively showing in recognized dressage shows at 3rd level and placing against the 'big horses'! Chester's dam is SPSS Glitter Girl who is a GRP by the stallion Losander. Chester is sired by the Welsh B stallion The Breas My Mobility, standing in Germany. The Breas My Mobility has sired exceptional licensed stallion sons such as FS Mr. Right, Mr. Mobility, Monte Christo and Chester’s full brothers Kastanienhof Manhattan, and Manchester United. Congrats to Seamus's sire, Manchester City,is competing at 3rd level open and winning classes against the "big" horses.More information, photos and videos of Manchester City can be found at his webpage:

Seamus is developing his foundational education and skills in the basics of balance, obedience and body awareness, through regular work in lunging, tying, trailering and more. He stands for the farrier and vet, wears a surcingle while lunging, is carrying a bit and is willing to follow you anywhere. He has a great sense of humor and loves attention; he’s the first at the gate and always pokes his nose over to say ‘hi’. Seamus gets along with both mares and geldings and has adapted well to our mixed herd. He has a fun, good-natured, goofy personality, is very curious and willing. From what we have seen thus far, he is naturally forward-thinking, tuned into people and is always seeking to please. We expect Seamus to finish between 14.1 and 14.2 hands. We plan to continue to show Seamus in-hand 2018 and take him off-farm to keep broadening his experience and get him used to new environments.

Seamus is a lovely chestnut color with no white hooves or socks. His strong feet stand up well to a variety of footing. He has a star and stripe and several colors in his mane and tail. As a foal, Seamus rolled into the Electrobraid fence, sustaining a minor, skin level injury which the vet tended to immediately. Though no lasting damage has been done, he has a small scar on the cannon of this left hind leg. This does not seem to interfere with any athletic abilities, as you can see from his videos.

We feed premium Nutrena feed for all of our horses and ponies, ensuring adequate nutrients for proper development and longevity of our athletes. In addition, regular farrier work and vetting are critical to future success and all of our horses are up to date on vaccines and care.

This Spring, Seamus had his Wolf teeth extracted in preparation for his training. He has been carrying a bit while lunging with a surcingle and beginning the work needed for ground driving. He does a great job with each new concept we throw at him!

Though his breeding may seem unusual to many in North America, this careful cross of breeds/traits is quite common in the development of the German Riding pony. Seamus's dam sire has offspring competing successfully across the board—in Eventing, Combined Driving, Dressage--and more! Coupled with the exceptional dressage talent of his sire Manchester City, Seamus is a very strong prospect of all of the English based FEI Disciplines. He is very special and we are searching for just the right home for him to grow and thrive in.
