Looking for an FEI dressage horse on a budget?
Andy Po Po, located in Louisville, KY, is a 16.1 hand 2012 gelding who made his Intermediate I debut this spring. Andy has big but easy to sit gaits. He is responsive to the leg without being overly hot. He is light in the bridle, and can be ridden in a snaffle, through all 3rd level movements and most of 4th. In the tempi-changes, he can get just a little strong so does best if his rider uses a double but gives the reins a bit between each change. He is calm at home and acts the same if he is ridden 5 days a week or if he has a week off between rides. He is forgiving of mistakes, and just keeps trying to do whatever he is asked without holding a grudge. At quieter shows, he is steady enough to trailer-in on show day and show off the trailer. At shows with a big atmosphere, like in the Rolex Arena, he can be a little excited on the first day (nothing naughty like bucking, rearing, or bolting though) so does best if he gets to school the day before. Andy is a Thoroughbred so he has the stamina to show two FEI classes per day at a two-day show without getting worn out. He has a huge heart and tries so hard to please his rider.
Andy is ready to earn his new rider their bronze or silver medal and is suitable for an ambitious junior or confident amateur. He has excellent ground manners, self-loads in the trailer, stands quietly for the farrier, and is just easy to be around in general. When I trailer my two horses somewhere to ride, Andy quietly waits his turn in the trailer while I ride my other horse. Andy has no vices, wears four regular shoes, and is great in the stall or turned out. He doesn’t need any maintenance and is just on a fly-repellant supplement in summer.
(Unfortunately, I don’t have video of an I-1 test; I am an amateur who keeps my horses at home so I ride and show almost exclusively by myself. See below for a video of a Prix St Georges test and a 4th level test.)
