Athena VZ— 2012 16.2hh Bay Oldenburg Mare— (Apiro x Whitney, Winchester) – in foal to the 16.2hh Bay Oldenburg Stallion Banderas (Balou du Rouet x Grannus x Beach Boy)

$7500 – Aberdeen, NC

Athena VZ was Champion at her foal inspection and awarded Premium Filly in 2012 with the Oldenburg Registry NA.

Athena’s sire— Apiro –2000 16.3hh Bay Bavarian Stallion (Argentinus/Pilot)—was Reserve Champion of his 30-day test in 2004 with 8.51 overall, 8.86 for jumping and 7.99 for dressage. He completed his sport requirements in Germany by qualifying for the 2005 Bundeschampionat in show jumping. Apiro competed successfully in the working hunter ring as well as with his amateur owner. He is producing quiet minded, athletic offspring stamped with his type. http://marabetfarm.us/id113.html

Apiro is a son of the legendary, Argentinus, who for an amazing seven years led the FN statistics of his age group for the prize money earned by his progeny with offspring competing at international levels in both dressage and jumping. Argentinus was a successful advanced level show jumper, sire of 28 approved sons, 48 State Premium mares, and became Germany's youngest millionaire based on money won by his progeny. He was renowned for passing on his willing temperament to his offspring.

Athena VZ is in foal to Banderas –2006 Bay Oldenburg Stallion – (Balou du Rouet x Grannus x Beach Boy) Banderas is the first approved son of the sensational European stallion Balou du Rouet, to stand in North America. Banderas is a very athletic stallion, with a lovely expression, clearly stamped by his sire. Banderas has three very good athletic gaits, and shows a huge amount of jumping potential. He jumps in classic form, and shows a lot of scope. He also has a very good temperament and good nature.

Athena’s dam— Whitney was sired by the Grand Prix stallion Winchester—who was most notably ridden by Canadian Ian Miller. Whitney’s pedigree is filled with other great jumping sires (Winnetou, Wachmann, Ferdinand, Sender, Wedekind, and Trautmann) who have competed internationally and have produced top level jump horses . Several of the stallions in Whitney’s pedigree have also been found in many upper level dressage horses—namely the stallion Wachmann who was the dam sire of the 2004 Olympic German dressage horse Wansuela Suerte.

Whitney started her career in dressage before she began breeding. Athena was Whitney’s last foal—in 2012 at the age of 21—at 25 Whitney is still being ridden and used for fox hunting, lessons, and a guest horse. Whitney was an easy breeder taking on her foal heat – she had a total of 8 foals with her first foal being born in 2005.

Athena VZ had a neck injury in the pasture as a yearling—causing her to have an irregular gait. We had her started under saddle in the fall as a 3 year old and turned her back out this past winter. She is very well behaved under saddle, but with her injury would be best suited for breeding and light riding.

Athena VZ has had regular heat cycles, was easy to breed, and took on her first insemination this May.

We have a full sister to Athena VZ – Alexi VZ who is a year older and is showing much talent over fences. We are looking to focus our breeding operation to solely Dressage –therefore we are selling this wonderful young mare.
