Great deal on a quality prospect!

This mare has the natural talent for upper level dressage but will need the right person to get her there. What she lacks in bling, she makes up for in movement! Lovely mare by Contucci with balanced, uphill gaits.

"Mazie" has been ridden about 10 times over the past year- walk, trot, turn on the forehand, and decent steering. She has been completely accepting of all new things that we've done to her or put on her, from the saddle to the long lines. However, she has a difficult time with new things in her environment.

**Reason for low PRICE** Mazie does not handle change well. She can be working perfectly quietly on the long lines when she suddenly notices that the neighbor now has goats in their yard or somebody is walking through a field that is normally empty and she will just stop and stare- head up, nostrils flared. She needs somebody who will spend a great deal of time building trust, teaching her to think instead of freeze, and exposing her to everything. She is so easy to work with when she's calm but when something changes, it's like her brain just falls out and she isn't capable of doing anything.

She is never mean or aggressive, but will crowd her handler when she is worried about something else and therefore not paying attention to your space. In fact, she is very sweet and loves attention. My husband likes to grab her lips and nostrils and make her "talk" and make faces and she just soaks up the affection. She is easy at home as long as nothing drastic occurs- the typical changes in her environment are fine, she only reacts to the ones she feels are out of place.

She also gets nervous about going to new places but is manageable. She does not like being left there, however. Upon arrival, she'll be big-eyed and tight-backed but can be worked. I tried to leave her at my trainer's barn and she got worse the second day, stopped eating, was pacing, etc. so now she has a bad experience to overcome in terms of living elsewhere. She will need to be on ulcer preventatives and possibly calming supplements before I would consider moving her again.

I would love to find someone who is looking for a long-term project and wants to have a really talented horse on a tiny budget. I will require that the buyer not re-sell her for a period of time because I do not want this to be a turn-around project or a "flip"- I need to know she is not going to be passed from home to home. I have trained a number of my own horses but she is not like any I've ever had before and I do not feel qualified to tackle her issues right now. I do not have the time to give her or the finances to put her in professional training for who knows how long. She is a really great horse most of the time but I think she would benefit from someone who has worked with similar horses. Due to her needs, I have priced her at her broodmare value.

Premium Award and Reserve Champion foal at her ISR/Oldenburg inspection at Derby Farms, August 2010- she really wowed the crowd with her trot!

Additionally, she LOVES people and will be the one to greet you at the gate and follow you around like a puppy. She loads into the trailer alone. Ties well and is always cooperative for the vet/farrier. Loves to be brushed and fussed over. She tolerates getting bathed, having her mane pulled, being spritzed with spray bottles.

Bloodlines: She is out of a Dutch mare, WithSocialGraces (last picture), by Ijsselmeer Ikepono, a several time winner of the CDS "Horse of the Year" title at Grand Prix.
Her sire, Contucci, is one of the most successful dressage stallions in the US. Contucci won the dressage portion of his 100 Day Test, earning 9 for Character, 9 for Rideability, 9 for Walk, 9 for Trot, and 9 for Canter. He reliably passes on his wonderful temperament, type, and movement to his offspring. In fact, from 2006-09, horses sired by Contucci WON the USEF Young Horse/Developing Horse Championships. Contucci's sire, Caprimond, was also winner of his 100 Day Test, a Grand Prix dressage competitor and a very influential sire- he is also the sire of the great Hohenstein. Caprimond was the Trakehner Stallion of the Year in 1998.

"Mazie" obviously has what it takes for the dressage ring but if she inherited her dam's jumping form, she could also do well as a hunter.

***LAST 2 PICTURES are Contucci (her sire) and Grace (her dam).
