Dragon Heart (Drake) is truly an amazing horse, with a kind, willing temperament, remarkable beauty, and incredible athleticism. Like his sire Don Frederico, Drake is tall, refined, and elegant, with a lovely uphill build and phenomenal gaits. His movement is powerful, lofty, and forward—breathtaking to watch.
At his inspection, his outstanding conformation and exceptional gaits earned him the honor of co-champion colt. Drake enjoyed a relaxed youth on a large, open farm with his breeder, where he was handled regularly and given plenty of time to grow and mature. He was started slowly and correctly under saddle as a six-year old, and he’s been wonderful to work with, accepting every new phase in his training with willingness and obedience, exceeding expectations at every turn. Now working solidly at first level, Drake shows exceptional talent for dressage, and there’s no doubt that he has the potential to advance.
As part of his training, Drake is ridden six days a week in the arena and on hacks, loaded regularly and transported off the farm. He'll be shown in Lexington, Kentucky this summer.
Drake is sound and healthy, with no history of illness or injury, and no vices. He has excellent feet and legs, and works year-round without shoes. Drake pastures quietly with other horses and he's also a pleasure to have in the barn, where he stalls without a fuss, stands quietly in the crossties and for the farrier. Under saddle he is calm and attentive, responsive to light aids, and has an excellent work ethic. He loves to be around his person, and especially enjoys being groomed and handled.
Drake’s sire, Don Frederico was named Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2012 at the 2012 Hanoverian Licensing. Born in 1997, Don Frederico is by Donnerhall out of Cleopatra (by Consul). Don Frederico was licensed in 1999 and named Champion Stallion.
Don Frederico has proved himself not only as an exceptional athlete, but also as a remarkable sire. His first foal crop included the Bundeschampion Dantonisius and the Vice Champion Dark Carlotta. He also sired Diva Royal, the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in London and the Grand Prix Don Johnson FRH. Twenty-five of his sons have been licensed for breeding by the Hannoveraner Verband, including Don Darius, the bronze medalist of five-year-old dressage horses at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf, and Dramatic, the World Champion of young dressage horses in 2008. Don Frederico has sired more than 178 state premium mares and state premium candidates.
His offspring are known for their power, ambition, and willingness to learn and perform, and Dragon Heart embodies all of these attributes of excellence.
