You may look at this ad and think it is too good to be true. If this horse was too good to be true then I wouldn't have to be looking for a home for him. I bought this horse as a 3yr old for use as a ama/owner jumper. He was green and he was sent to a trainer for ground breaking. He returned and was trained under saddle. Everything was fine until he was introduced to jumping. He hated it. We tried for the next few years with a slower introduction to jumping and 2 new trainers. Although he is very athletic and could clear a large fence he is not to be trusted over a jump. He has tremendous dressage potential and has been evaluated by a dressage trainer. But I do not want to do dressage, ever. My horses are pets first and animals second. I could have sold him but I do not want to wonder what will happen to him if he doesn't work out for the next owner. Will he end up at an auction or on his way to be horse meat in another country? So I am offering him as a free lease to the perfect home. If someone fell in love with him and wanted to keep him after dealing with him for a few years there could be the possibility of transfer of ownership.
He is 100% sound and has never been lame. He has one splint he got while jumping and even then he wasn't off. He has great feet and has never worn hind shoes. He has very good ground manners, will stand for clipping and get on the trailer with a rope behind his rear end. He does not crib or weave or pace in his stall. He is cold back and if girthed slowly and mounted with the rider up in the stirrups for 30 seconds he will be absolutely fine. He has been out in the woods and on some trails. He is pastured with other geldings and is in the middle of the pecking order. He lives on a farm and has been exposed to many other animals without fussing. He has been out to horse shows. Places well under saddle and even once in awhile on a good day over fences.
At this point in time he has not done anything for over a year and is very out of shape.
He will not be allowed to go to an owner out of the country and I will probably limit him to staying on the east coast where I can check on him if need be. I am his veterinarian and he is up to date on his vaccinations and has a negative coggins report for 2012. I will try to find more pictures for posting.
