Elessar is a 2009 bay 16.2h gelding by Riverman ISF out of a Consul mare. He was started at 4 and a half for a client in the fall of 2013, purchased from that person, who had raised him from a foal, and began showing at Training level as a 5 year old in 2014, and then at Training and First levels in 2015. His medians at both levels were in the low 70s and all scores fell between a 65 and 77 percent, including at Regional Championships where he placed high in big competitive open classes. In early spring of 2016 he had an injury to a foreleg that kept him out of the show ring for the season, but was eventually cleared for work by both his local vet and the ortho specialist Dr. Schneider outside of Spokane, WA. Both vets felt that the injury was circumstantial versus being due to predisposed weakness in conformation, etc, and felt it should never pose a problem again. All details, including results of diagnostics done, available upon inquiry! Other than this event, he’s never been lame or had injuries other than cutting his forearm open as a 5 year old and having an abscess. He has had no colic episodes, has no vices, and requires no special management. Elessar started back to full work late winter of this year, fully sound, and has remained as such. The primary reason for selling him is due to believing that I am not the right rider for him (he requires someone braver than I am at this point in my life), and believing that he may not be a grand prix dressage horse, which is a goal for me as a professional. He’s only been over very small and simple jump grids a few years ago, but demonstrated wonderful balance and handiness and certainly had a knack for it. He was free jumped to just under 4 foot this spring (see video) and it became more evident that he has true jumping ability, as his bloodlines would also suggest. He could continue on as a dressage horse, but would likely make a very talented show jumper or event horse, and seems to enjoy jumping more than straight dressage. Elessar has three balanced and cadenced gaits, was schooling third level (baby half pass and getting the idea of changes) before he was laid up, and is forward thinking without being hot. He can be spooky at times, particularly about things he’s not experienced before, but much of the spooky behavior also seems to be related to the confidence of his rider. Elessar would require a confident and capable rider due to being a stronger horse and also needing some reassurance and assertiveness from the person on his back to be at his best; he is not for novice riders, and not for riders that don’t have an independent seat and sophisticated hand. My hope is that there is a talented rider out there who can handle his quirks, give him a wonderful home, but is working with a smaller budget. His personality on the ground is second to none, truly the most sweet and engaging and friendly horse I’ve ever known. Easy to handle and even if he’s afraid of something he’s absolutely not one to run over you or jump on you, and very much stays focused on his person. He’s wonderful in turnout with other horses (his living situation for the last 4 years has been on a 4 acre pasture with 4 to 5 companions of various ages/sizes/dispositions) and can be pastured with even the most submissive and “low on the totem pole” of horses. Elessar is ready for the right person to come into his life and develop him further. He is priced to sell and priced with the requirement of a skilled and confident rider in mind. He is not dangerous by any means, and tends to be extremely laid back (can go to a new venue for a show and just chills quietly in his stall, doesn’t worry, doesn’t go off his feed or quit drinking, etc, handles new arenas well, travels well, doesn’t mind being alone in the barn whatsoever, happy to just stand like a lump under saddle) but is not a horse for “just anyone”. The price also reflects the fact that he’s been in very very minimal work since the beginning of June and is currently out of shape. Approved homes only, more video/photos upon request, happy to answer any and all questions!
