Cliff is a registered RPSI gelding (Holsteiner x Oldenburg) who scored Premium Gold at his inspection, and has lived up to every expectation of him since. Kind, thoughtful, and always willing to cut his rider a break, he's easy to handle on the ground and simple to ride. Extraordinarily light for his big size, he carries himself in a lovely frame and has a lovely hunter trot and gorgeous rolling canter.
Cliff was raised by an uber competent dressage rider and horsewoman who competed with him through the dressage levels and then spent several years riding him out on the trails/beaches and jumping. His natural 12' stride and rolling canter make him easy to find the jumps on, and strides are never a concern.
Cliff would be a fabulous horse for a tall kid looking for a nice mount in the hunter/equitation classes or could continue his life as a seasoned dressage horse happy to carry an amateur around the dressage ring. His dressage background means he doesn't have many h/j show miles, but that is reflected in his price, which will increase as his show record builds this summer. Cliff is forward by nature, but not hot nor anxious. Combined with his size, he might be a bit much for a super timid or super beginner rider. But that is not a euphemism for any bad behavior, simply that he is keen to the jumps and needs a rider who can half halt him appropriately.
Four videos are available on the videos link. The first is a couple of short courses. The second is a little bit of [as-done-by-a-hunter/jumper-rider] lateral work (shoulders-in to a haunches in down the rail, spiral out on a circle, and then a flying change in each direction). the 3rd is a short course to 3'3". The last is a 15 minute ride under a dressage trainer and shows lateral work, figure 8s at the canter holding the counter lead, walk/canter/walk transitions, and flying changes
