Halcyonia Gypsy Rose, a 2019 section D registered Welsh Cob, showed her talent for dressage in her first show (recognized GOLD). She behaved perfectly, coming down the centre line and halting with a score of 7.5 percent. She handled the spooky show environment like a seasoned show horse. She ended the season being NATIONAL DRESSAGE PONY CUP CHAMPION of the Introductory Division.
Her pedigree highlights her dressage potential. She is related through the stallion line (Welsh Dreams of Springsong) to Halcyonia Night Life (Ace), who was Open High Point Champion, Open Training Level Champion and Open First Level Champion for 2024 National Dressage Pony Cup. He was also USEF Horse of the year 2024 and has even been made into a Breyer model horse.
Gypsy has a lovely walk, cadenced trot, rhythmical canter and nice transitions in and out of the gaits. She moves, and acts as an upper level dressage horse in a 14H body. She rides in a snaffle, can be a “saint” with an unfit rider, but "has an engine when you ask for it!” (quotes from other riders). At this point in her training she is very fit and sensitive to the leg and seat. As a result is best suited to confident riders.
At home, at Rosewood Dressage Inc., she is schooling First level with young rider Amanda Dubé. She finds her forward, responsive and brave to ride. Also, a complete sweetheart to handle, who hacks, gets along well with her herd mates, can live out 24/7, is barefoot with no maintenance, and an easy keeper with no vices.
Talented dressage ponies are few and far between! This girl would be happy to continue on a dressage path up the levels. Her trainer predicts Gypsy Rose will be an FEI pony one day.
