For Sale
La Costa is a very cool and unique animal. She was imported from Poland in 2019 where she competed in the 1.30 jumpers. (see video). She was sold to an armature that just didn't have the skills to manage her. She is a 15.3 Holstiner mare that doesn't get very mareish. I am selling her because I am moving from Florida to California and just do not want to drag her across the country. California does not have the turnout options that FL has and she needs turn-out. In addition I want to go back to the hunters.
The good things: She is such a puppy dog on the ground. Every one I know complements how sweet and loving she is. She knows the first 7 Parelli games which I taught he when I bought her. She stands for the vet, loads easy on the trailer, stands for the farrier, is incredibly talented as an athlete. This horse was trained in dressage in Poland. I am not very talented as a dressage rider but she does well with me anyways. I recently took her to a dressage show and she ended up winning the training level one test. She is a brave horse and I can usually do anything with her. She walks over boards, rides out alone, rides next to the rode, and with other horses. She is so fun and very handy while jumping. She can turn on a dime and really enjoys jumping. She is extremely adjustable in lines and very light in the mouth. I just have her in a D-ring French link snaffle and have no issues with her getting to strong or pulling through it. She is a kick ride on the flat and takes a decent amount of leg. She does get more up with she locks onto a fence but not overbearing. I do not use a spur unless I am jumping big. I currently do not give her any supplements and she has four shoes. She has a very healthy foot so I am sure she could go without. She does live outside 90% of the time and she loves it. She is only in the stall when if rains so she does not loose her shoes. She is turned out with another mare and she is not the dominant one. I recently put a begginer on her that was learning to post and she just trotted around like a good girl. I have had an 11 year old on her as well and had no problems. This horse trail rides all over FL and will go through most obsticles such as tarps that you put in front of her. She rides bareback in a halter, and double, and loves people.
The things you need to know to manage her: She was brought to the US and then scared by her owner so when's she's jumping she needs the rider to be accurate. She needs a talented gritty armature or pro to take her back to the higher levels but will tolerate a lot at the lower levels. Under 1M and she will do just about anything for you. She does have a spook but it is usually mild and only happens if the weather drops or shes been stalled for a few days. She wants to be a girl and tries very hard.
She showed at Florida's PCHA in the 2'6 and did well getting a sixth. She also showed at week 8 Ocala's WEC in the .95 and also did well. She took home two first and a 5th out of 30 horses. She went in the outdoor ring without ever being in it and jumped around wonderful. She also rode great in the indoor without looking. I think with the right person she can easily step back into the 1.30's. This horse NEEDS to be in a program though. She has to be ridden 5 days a week or turned out 12+ hours. If she is in and not ridden she will take lunging prep to produce a good ride. At shows she takes a hack in the morning typically and thats it.
