Riding or Breed -- well broke mare looking for a lifetime partner.

Sugar is a second generation WB from my breeding program out of a Weltmeyer mare and sired by the Dutch import Soprano. At her foal inspection Sugar was site Champion scoring 8.6 in movement. She ended the year being tied for Reserve Champion foal for the entire nation. At age 3yrs she was started under saddle and proved to be a willing student. During routine x ray session it was discovered she had a (suspected) inoperable OCD lesion in one hock. Other xrays were clear. The affected hock was injected and Sugar continued with her u/s training. Knowing the Dressage Market and their reaction to OCD, I decided to retain Sugar as a broodmare. But inbetween foals Sugar continued to be in "tune up" training, both in the arena and on the trail. She has always been sound and remains so to this day. Several years ago we took another xray and discovered the hock is actually fusing, which means the joint can function without pain. It has not been re-xrayed, but I would guess it is 100% fused by now. We injected the hock one more time....that was several years ago. Recently I've made the decision to close down my breeding program, so all marketable horses are for sale, including Sugar. Although she has proven to be an excellent mom and has not had any fertility issues, I would MUCH prefer to place her in a riding home, as I feel there is more security there. Hence her VERY low price. Sugar is BROKE, with excellent ground manners and a very willing attitude, but she has very big, powerful gaits that may not be appropriate for an inexperienced, rider who has not yet acquired the strength and balance needed to maintain a softer, more elastic contact. That being said, fit, experienced dressage riders (Bronze Medal or simply riders who know how to use their core), LOVE riding Sugar. Her current trainer is a jump rider and she has no issues with Sugar....LOVES her! She is light off the leg, forward, and likes to work. The comment I've heard most often is "She rides like a 17hh horse!" or "Man, this little mare has a ton of power" but is NEVER spooky, silly or stupid. Her "tune up" trainer is a jump rider, so she started her over jumps....you can see the results in the most recent video. BTW, this was taken after only 25 days of "retraining"....prior to this Sugar has not been ridden with any degree of consistency for well over 1 year. We have yet to find anything that really bothers Sugar....she is a bold, confident mare. Leaves the pasture & her mates or leaves home without a murmur....no behavior issues at home OR away from home. Just about perfect ground manners. I have her priced this low so I can be choosy about where she goes. She would love an experienced and/or fit, athletic rider...perhaps abit older....who wants a sound, sane horse they can pull out of the field after 2 months with no riding and be assured she will still have a fun, SAFE ride. A partner she can have FUN with. A horse he/she can school in the arena, take out on the trail (Sugar does groups or alone), haul to the occasional show (Sugar travels well and never cares about leaving home) or even do "non-dressage" stuff like go to a cattle branding or trail class (Sugar already knows how to ground tie). Sugar is a very easy keeper, does best with a pasture/shelter situation and gets along fine in a herd. Great feet...no health issues. Sugar went going back into training after a lay off of over 1 year and was being ridden (without lunging) the very next day. She has been ridden daily and again, has had ZERO soundness issues. I must stress that she has NEVER been lame or "off" on that hock. Bad xray, but sound horse. She is available for test rides at a facility about 1 hr from the Spokane WA airport. She is a lovely, honest mare and deserves the best. A wonderful opportunity to get a quality mare at a bargain price. But please: NO FLIPPERS; I want Sugar to find the life-long home she deserves. Reckless Heart Ranch

I am a former professional horsewoman (TB racing & polo) who currently breeds 1-3 top quality sporthorses per year. I use only the highest quality, proven stallions, including some from Germany via frozen semen. My babies are handled extensively and horses of riding age are started using gentle methods. They are NEVER rushed or forced. Except for the youngsters & foaling moms, all my horses are turned out in large, spacious pasture 24/7. Babies are brought in at night in the winter. All this activity insures strong bone development, good social interaction and a quiet, calm mind.
