Rocky Top “Preston” is coming 18 going on 8, registered Oldenburg gelding, 16.3 hands. He started his career in dressage, and when we bought him 6 years ago, he had been several years competing in a jumper barn. We have used him mainly for foxhunting. He is my husband’s horse; he learned how to ride English and jump out on the hunt field on him. Preston took incredible care of him, and my husband became first flight Fieldmaster on him after one season.
Everyone loves him; he is flashy, fun, and willing. This horse is SOUND and solid. And I’m not saying he’s sound for his age. He is one of the soundest horses I have had the pleasure of knowing, personal or client horses (I am an equine veterinarian). I feel that he will be sound and happy in work into his mid to late 20’s.
He has an inoperable chip in his LF ankle. I believe it was discovered on a PPE when he was young. He will flex to it on a PPE and has limited range of motion on passive flexion. However, he has been in heavy, consistent work all of his life and it hasn’t slowed him down at all.
He is still easily and regularly jumping 3 feet. He will be suitable for foxhunting, jumping, dressage, eventing, pleasure, whatever you like. He likes to go. He is quite strong on the hunt field, but never unsafe. Very sweet and personable. No vices, good manners. Lives outside in a group 24/7, but is good in a stall as well. Currently on free choice good quality mixed hay and nothing else.
He is suitable for a confident child (not necessarily advanced), but is fun for everyone.
My husband is no longer fox hunting, which is why he is for sale. I am hoping to find him a home that that will be committed to keeping him when he’s ready to retire (again, he’s not even close). He has been a special part of our family, and is worth his weight in gold to us.
