Romulus is a 6 yr old Gelding by the Holsteiner Stallion, R'Mani. He is a big horse with a puppy's personality. His big, beautiful eye is a perfect indicator of his temperament. He LOVES!!! attention, and he totally enjoys his job. He has been ridden all over the state. We've schooled him at various facilities, taken him to shows, and trail ridden him in many different environments. I have ridden him on busy highways with cars buzzing by(so close they were blowing his tail!), and he has never flinched. I have also ridden him in a friend's roping arena WHILE THEY WERE CHASING CATTLE DOWN THE PEN. Roping cattle can get CRAZY. He was not phased by this either.
We've started going to a few small shows. He was Baby Green champion at the last show we attended. We were very proud of him!
I have owned Romulus since he was young, and I bought him from the breeder. He has been carefully brought along and correctly started. There are no holes in his training. He has also had the best care. His feet are perfect--big and black. I have him in aluminum fronts and steel backs. Goes in a snaffle- never ride with a martingale, etc.
I started Romulus in a round pen, and we've done a lof of Clinton Anderson's ground work on him. He will load in a trailer without you even walking in first. He is quite "hooked on", and if I get off of him while in the arena to change the jumps, he stays right at my hip. What a good boy!
Romulus is jumping 2'-6"' to 2'-9". He has the scope to do higher. He has the very BEST canter. It is SLOW and rhythmical. It is very, very easy to see the distance. He NEVER changes his rhythm. I usually ride him in spurs, but he is not dull to your leg.
Romulus can be turned out with anything--young, old, male, female. He doesn't care. Right now he is in the field with my yearlings. He's great at teaching them some manners because he'll just make an ugly face if they are being pushy but he would never bite or kick anything. As long as you remember to feed him he is totally content. He doesn't make a peep when he's away from home or when he's on the trailer. He has sort of a "sleepy" disposition. But he's not lazy. He knows when there's work to be done.
I have thoroughly enjoyed training this horse. He is such a pleasure to deal with, and makes my job fun and easy. He is the perfect age. Warmbloods are at their best when they're over 5. He's over any of the baby playfullness, and has made a remarkable horse.
The only thing he doesn't like to having his ears clipped, but I can do it by myself with the twitch. You don't have to sedate him to clip his easrs, it's just not his favorite thing.
