Alejandro Salazar is the owner and trainer at Rancho Pura Vida. His involvement with horses started as a kid growing up in a ranch and herding cattle in Costa Rica. Alejandro’s formal training in Dressage and Jumpers started in 1980 in Costa Rica, where he participated in vaulting, dressage, and jumping competitions. He eventually became a member of Costa Rica's National Riding Team, representing the country at international events held both in Costa Rica and abroad. Following a successful competition career in Costa Rica, including the honor of being 1985’s National First Level Champion and National “14 and Under” Jumping Champion, Alejandro lived in Mexico City where he trained a Thoroughbred stallion and competed at the Mini-Prix level (4’6”). While attending the graduate program at Purdue University in Indiana, Alejandro worked as a young horse trainer and assistant barn manager at For-Rest Hill Farm. He then moved to Northern California, where he started Rancho Pura Vida. Alejandro is a USDF Certified trainer up to 4th level, USJA Certified trainer and holds a USDF Gold Medal in Dressage.
